Vicki Fanara, Instructor

This camp offers a unique musical experience in team choreography.  Using props such as rods and special gloves, we will learn how to move expressively to music. Don’t miss this opportunity to improve your skills in coordination and teamwork in a fun and different way!

Instructor Bio: Vicki Fanara has a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Maryland and has been teaching in schools for over eight years. In addition to classroom teaching, she also serves as the Celebration Choir director at Fourth Presbyterian Church.  She currently serves as the K-7 Music Teacher at Fourth School.

Drama Days
 

Ann Duffy,
Instructor

This is the camp for your budding thespian! Using a Reader’s Theatre Play, campers will receive instruction and practice in basic theatre and acting skills.  They will learn dialog, plan scenery and costumes, and at the end of the week, present their show to the other campers and parents.

Instructor Bio: Ann Duffy has a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland and is a veteran teacher of 32 years.  She has been teaching kindergarten at Fourth School for the past nine years which has included producing a Thanksgiving play every year.  Ann also led a children’s drama camp for four consecutive summers guiding students in the process of play production from start to finish.

Band Camp

Instructor: Jennifer Mitchell

Over the course of the camp, the class will work to improve skills by performing in a traditional concert band.  Students will work to improve scale knowledge, technique, sight reading, rhythmic accuracy, tone control and performance techniques.  The band will perform both new and traditional concert band music and there will also be opportunities for chamber and solo performances.  This is a great way to refine your music skills and prepare for your future music endeavors.

Instructor Bio: Jennifer Mitchell has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from James Madison University and earned her Master’s Degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Memphis. She taught music at various high schools in Tennessee and performed with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. She has been teaching and performing in the Washington, DC area for over ten years while maintaining a private studio. Jennifer currently serves as the Executive Director of the Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra and teaches instrumental music at Seneca Academy and Fourth Presbyterian School.

A Path to Art

Susan Scola,
Instructor

Join us for a highly creative and educational week where campers will grow in their artistic knowledge and ability. They will get to “know” famous artists, have the chance to create their own original works of art, and finish their week off with a trip to the National Gallery of Art to see some well known pieces firsthand.

Instructor Bio: Susan Scola has worked for 14 years as a volunteer school docent at the National Gallery of Art introducing students from preschool through high school to the collection by highlighting the elements of art and art history while integrating the art works with school curriculum.  Susan has been teaching art at the Fourth Presbyterian School since it began in 1999.  Susan holds a B.A. in History and Theater from Mary Baldwin College. She also has additional study at St. Anne’s College, Oxford University and Docent Certification Training, National Gallery of Art.
