Chapel

Weekly Wednesday chapels are a vital part of The Fourth School's mission to develop the faith of our students.

Our school theme for 2009-2010 is "Learning and Living the Faith."  During the first semester, we will focus on teaching the essentials of the Christian faith using questions from The Westminster Shorter Catechism. The second semester will also draw from the Shorter Catechism, as we teach and encourage students how to practically live out their faith on a daily basis through teaching the Ten Commandments and the Lord's Prayer.

"But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love."

2 Peter 1:5-7 (NKJV)

The services begin with praise and worship led by Student Activities Director, Brent Cochran, as the school shares songs that students can relate to. Many of the songs are straight from Scripture, since we believe singing is one of the greatest tools for learning Scripture by heart.

For the lower school service, our students hear a chapel talk as well as learn and recite the Lord's prayer. In the middle school service, students learn and recite the Confession of Sin, the Apostles' Creed, and the Lord's Prayer, in addition to hearing an age-appropriate chapel talk.

Mr. Murray and Principal Nancy Coit each give a chapel talk once a month. In the weeks they are not speaking, students hear from various pastors from Fourth Presbyterian Church.

With over 25 churches represented in the school, we believe our weekly chapel time is a major unifying factor as we worship, learn, and celebrate our faith together as a school community.
