Grade 4



The text is Walking With God and His People Grade 4, CSI curriculum. Emphasis is on the Old Testament through the divided kingdoms.


Primary text is Voyages in English Grade 5 with a focus on parts of speech and usage. Diagramming sentences is continued.


Primary focus is on Maryland history and geography. 


The text used is Harcourt School Publishers Grade 4. Problem solving is emphasized, numerous manipulatives are used for hands-on learning, and Hands-On Equation is continued.


Reading is used in a balanced literacy instructional program. Various leveled reading books are used for guided reading groups. The program integrates reading, word study, and writing.
Students are taught comprehension skills, plot, character development, and story resolution through books such as The Indian in the Cupboard, The Cricket in Time Square, Homer Price, The Tale of Despereaux, and Toliver’s Secret.


Hands-on, experiential learning covers the subjects of earthquakes and volcanoes, sound and light, plant growth and adaptation, and ecosystems.


The text is Wordly Wise 3000, with a focus on content and literature based words.


Students write on a daily basis, using various methods to produce well-written narratives, poetry, and paragraphs. Persuasive, expository, narrative, and poetry writing are covered in fourth grade. Students draft and revise through writing workshops and are assessed by the 6-Traits.
