Text is Walking With God and His People Grade 2, CSI curriculum. Focus is on the study of the life of Jesus and the early church.
Primary text is Shurley Grammar Level 2. The Shurley method uses repetition, fun student-teacher interaction, and a concrete set of questions about each word in a sentence in order to teach students parts of speech and give them an understanding of how all the parts fit together.
Focus is on early Ancient Greece and Rome in world history and the War of 1812 and the Constitution in American history. Study of Modern Japan is also included. Students review continents and oceans, and study hemispheres, the equator, and countries of the North American Continent.
The main text, Houghton Mifflin, is a phonics-based reading program used in a balanced literacy instructional program. Various leveled reading books are used for guided reading groups. The program integrates reading, word study, and writing. Students are also taught plot, character development, and story resolution through the reading of trade books.
The text is Harcourt School Publishers Grade 2. Problem solving is emphasized. Saxon Math fact cards and numerous manipulatives are used for hands-on learning.
Hands-on, experiential learning covers the subjects of simple machines, the water cycle, magnets and magnetism, and life cycles.
Students write on a daily basis, using various methods to produce well-written narratives, poetry, and paragraphs. Students draft and revise through writing workshops and are assessed by the 6-Traits.
