Drama is both a performing art as well as a form of literature that goes beyond the written word. Through drama, actors and actresses give visual voice and life to the story of the printed page.

Drama is a part of the curriculum at Fourth precisely because God gave people the interest, desire and ability to act out stories both as a form of enjoyment and as a way for us to see and understand in a visual way our own thoughts and desires and those of others.

Our focus is on experiencing drama and participating in it. Our students at all grade levels learn about the elements of drama (plot, character, thought, diction, music and spectacle) via role playing, creative dramatics, plays and “Readers Theater."

Through our connections to the Folger Shakespeare Library, our Fourth School third grade students perform a condensed version of one of Shakespeare's plays each year at the Folger Theater.
