The technology curriculum at The Fourth Presbyterian School focuses on meeting student needs in the information age by developing fundamental skills in the uses of technology tools such as computers, scientific instruments, calculators and so on.
Our technology instruction focuses on the development of critical thinking skills and an understanding of how technology can expand our potential to learn as well as influence people’s lives and the choices they make.
In addition, we strive to teach students the ethical and responsible use of the Internet (including knowledge of copyright and intellectual property rights), how to organize new information to create original written, oral and multi-media presentations, and how to strengthen their collaborative project skills.
Student instruction at grade levels K-2 focuses on basic computer skills and interactive lessons using online media, video clips, and/ or music, and supervised use of selected quality educational software at appropriate grades such as Kidspiration, The Writing Center, etc.
At grade levels 3-5, instruction is expanded to include:
• Research and learning, fostering critical thinking skills using teacher-designed WebQuests and Internet Treasure Hunts
• A keyboarding curriculum
• Wordprocessing of written assignments such as essays
• Calculator use
• Use of multimedia and instructional software for writing, editing, publishing and design such as Timeliner, Inspiration, PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop or MS Office Picture Manager
The Fourth School maintains a wireless networked campus.
